1. VARYING YOUR SPORTS ROUTINE
Most of us are used to walking during daylight hours. But during the winter, our early morning and early evening slots take place in the light of the moon, while the sun is still, or already, in bed! It's not unheard of to go walking at night. In fact, it's a great way to mix up your sports routine a little. You'll find that your usual route looks completely different! In town, the noise of the traffic will be replaced by the calming glow of street lights; in the countryside, the magic of a starry sky will help you get back to nature. Both are ideal for enjoying the surrounding quiet and really concentrating on your walking.
2. WORKING OUT IN PRIVATE
Walking at night allows you to concentrate on your well-being, without having to worry about how you look. Because even if you aren't that bothered about what other people think, there's nothing unusual about wanting to work out in peace. Sometimes, there's nothing worse than receiving sympathetic looks from casual walkers while you are working up a sweat! Fitness walking is designed to make you hot and sweaty. And we all know that getting red in the face while working out never hurt anyone - quite the opposite in fact! So, walk alone and work up a sweat!
3. FACING YOUR FEARS
When you first consider it, night-time walking might seem a bit risky. But don't let the dark stop you from walking, especially if it's the only time of the day you can work out. Instead, there are a few things you can do to ensure your safety. Go out walking with other people - safety in numbers! Opt for busier routes rather than deserted paths. And finally, follow our advice for preparing your night-time fitness walking session properly. You'll find that you'll be even prouder of yourself for going out and exercising!
4. DISCOVERING NEW THRILLS
At night, all our senses are heightened, and our perception of our surroundings changes. For some people, these new sensations can be a source of adrenaline. What a great bonus for your walking session! Unconsciously, you will speed up, improve your performance and beat all your previous records. This is a good way to get a great workout before a good night's sleep or your workday. Watch out though, it can be addictive!
